Panelist, Segment on Hydrological Products
Andreas Schumann is a Professor at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. He is a user of hydrological data for research and development, especially for modelling (flood forecasting), design flood estimations and flood risk assessments, water management schemes, and decision support systems. From his professional background (8 years practical work as district hydrologist and water manager), he is familiar with the design and operation of hydrological networks. Prof Schumann works in close cooperation with water management authorities in several parts of Germany in general and with hydrologists in particular. He has been a partner in several EU- RD- projects, especially in the Mediterranean region, which were faced with very limited availability of hydrological data. In 2017, Prof. Schumann was a short-term consultant for the World Bank in the project “Modernizing Weather, Water, and Climate Services of Armenia”, proposing a road map for developing hydrological services.
